Self Reflection - $600 Firing enamel paints onto heads in kiln
In this series I use enamel paints fired onto the glass to create color and imagery. Each piece goes through multiple firings to create layered textures and imagery.
Enameling is a time consuming process. Paints begin as a powdered glass pigment which is mixed with a variety of mediums to achieve different consistencies. The enamel is then built up in layers through reverse painting. Each layer must be fired before the next is applied. Flat glass painting use reverse painting techniques to build imagery that is seen through the glass. I use the same techniques on blown pieces to create a three dimensional effect where the viewer sees imagery inside of the vessel.
I enjoy working with the enamels and reverse painting because it allows me to express myself beyond the typical confines of form and color.
Themes range through sociological studies, physics and social commentary. Each piece in this series is a unique piece of art.
Flat glass painting on mounted on hand made frames reflecting the essence of each individual painting.
